Melissa Hayes Named Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship Recipient

Charlottesville, Va.-Virginia’s Melissa Hayes (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Visitation) was named a recipient of the prestigious Weaver-James-Corrigan scholarship by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Hayes is a member of both the Virginia field hockey and lacrosse teams, both of which were ranked #1 in 1998. During the 1997-98 season, both squads led the nation in scoring defense. A three-years starter in both sports, Hayes was invited to the national teams selection camp for both sports in 1998. Hayes was elected a captain of the 1999 lacrosse team and was a member of the All-ACC Tournament team in both 1997 and 1998. In 1998, the lacrosse team won the ACC Championship. Hayes was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 1998.
