OXFORD, Miss. – The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team upset No. 26ranked Virginia 4-2 in the second match of the first round NCAA Men’sTennis Regional at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on the campus of theUniversity of Mississippi Friday afternoon.

The Cavaliers’ end their season with a 14-10 overall record, while SouthAlabama improves to 11-15. The Jaguars will face Ole Miss Saturday for theright to advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA Team Championships inAthens, Ga. The Rebels were 4-1 winners over Navy in the day’s first match.

South Alabama won the doubles point and then won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles,while Virginia took the top two positions. The Jaguars’ Christian Thall,playing up a position at No. 3 singles defeated Virginia’s John Winter toclinch the match for South Alabama.

Huntley Montgomery and Brian Vahaly will represent Virginia at the NCAAChampionships. They will compete in the individual doubles competition atthe NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., on May 26-30. Vahaly will also becompeting in the individual singles competition for the second year in arow.
