WILLIAMSBURG, VA – University of Virginia tennis player Hyon Yoo claimed the singles title today at the Tribe Indoor Tennis Tournament today at McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg.

Yoo, a senior from Rockville, Md., downed Virginia Commonwealth’s Johan Barras 6-3, 6-2 in the finals. Yoo downed fellow Cavalier Tommy Croker 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals to set up the match against Barras. Yoo rolled through all five matches en route to the title, winning in straight sets each time.

Sophomore Brian Hunter lost in the finals of the consolation bracket today to Patrick Brown of William & Mary 7-6 (9), 7-6 (4).

Croker won his first three matches before falling to Yoo in the semifinals. Junior John Winter dropped his first match and won the next two before being eliminated in the backdraw by Brown.

Virginia’s two doubles teams both lost to William & Mary duos in the semifinals of the doubles bracket on Saturday. Croker and Hunter fell to Lee Harang and Brian Lubin 8-6, while Winter and Yoo were stopped by David Kenas and Trevor Spracklin 8-1.
