DAVIDSON, N.C. — The University of Virginia men’s tennis team won its third consecutive match this afternoon with a 5-2 win over Davidson. The Cavaliers, who have won all three matches on their spring break trip, are now 9-3 on the season. Davidson’s two-match winning streak was snapped with the loss as the Wildcats fall to 9-4 on the season.
Davidson surprised the Cavaliers by winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Freshmen Brian Vahaly and Huntley Montgomery continued to roll along by winning their third straight match at #2 for UVa’s lone doubles win. They defeated Scott Briggs and Jon Pastel 8-6 in raising their record to 17-8.
The Cavaliers quickly forged a lead by winning three straight-set matches early in singles play. Freshman Huntley Montgomery gained his third consecutive win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Brett Ialacci at #2. Hyon Yoo continued his winning ways by defeating Jeff Tonidandel 6-4, 6-3 at #3 and John Winter won his 11th match in a row with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Alex Okulski at #4.
