BALTIMORE, Md.-Top-ranked Maryland scored early and often as theTerrapins won their fifth consecutive NCAA title with a 16-6 victory overVirginia. Maryland’s Jen Adams, the tournament MVP, led all scorers withfour goals and added and assist to help the Terps claim their seventh NCAAlacrosse title.

The Terrapins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes ofthe game before the Cavaliers got on the board at 17:09 as Jamie Haas(Berwyn, Pa./Marple Newtown) scored in her record 18th consecutive game.Maryland then scored two more goals to take a 6-1 lead before Haas foundMills Hook (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul’s) on the cresae to cut the deficitto 6-2. But the Terrapins scored the final five goals of the period to takean 11-2 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Terps continued their onslaught of theVirginia cage, scoring the next five goals to take a 16-2 lead. TheCavaliers closed out the game, scoring the final four goals of the game,including a hat trick by Samm Taylor (Springfield, Va../Robinson) in thefinal five minutes to make the final score 16-6.

Virginia closes out the season with its second consecutiverunner-up trophy and third in the last four years. In addition, theCavaliers end the season at 15-6, with the 21 games being the most playedin a single season in Virginia history. Haas set two records in 1999,scoring in 18 consecutive games and setting the record for points scored asa second year with her 59. The 59 points also ranks ninth all-time for asingle season.
