CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia swimmer Shamek Pietucha won both the 100 and 200-meter butterfly events at the Canadian National Championships this past weekend.

Pietucha, a senior at UVa from Edmonton, Alberta, established personal bests in both events. He won the 100-meter butterfly in 53.49 seconds, the second fastest time ever by a Canadian swimmer, and won the 200-meter butterfly in 1:59.0.

The Canadian National Championships served as a selection meet for the Canadian team that will compete in the Pan American Games and the World Short Course Championships. Pietucha will compete in the World Short Course Championships in Hong Kong the week beginning March 29.

This week (March 25-27) Pietucha competes in the NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
