CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team had its season-high 11 game winning streak snapped, as the Cavaliers dropped a pair of games to North Carolina. Virginia lost the first game 2-0, before dropping the nightcap by a score of 3-0.

Stacey Zagol pitched game-one for UVa, scattering two hits while striking out four batters in her outing. At the plate, the Cavaliers were held to three hits. Lori Reese (1-2), Beth Crimi (1-3) and Stacy Holmes (1-3) each added singles in the loss.

Chrisy Quinn started on the mound for Virginia in the second game. She pitched two innings, giving up five hits while striking out one batter. Zagol replaced Quinn early in the third inning with the bases loaded and no outs. North Carolina’s Beth Olen lined-out to Virginia shortstop Lori Reese, who then stepped on third bases to beat the retrieval effort of the base runner, and then fired a throw to first base beating out a second base runner for UVa’s first triple play of the season. The play sparked the Cavaliers, as the offense gathered seven hits in the game highlighted by Karen Breshears (2-3) and Crimi (2-4, double). However, Virginia was unable to score a run in the game. Reese (1-3), Holmes (1-4) and Meaghan Young (1-4) added hits in the 3-0 loss.

The sweep drops Virginia’s record to (30-19) overall, (0-2) in the ACC Metro Conference. North Carolina improves to (24-16) overall, (6-4) in the conference. The Cavaliers will return to home action on Tuesday, (April 7) when Virginia hosts South Carolina in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be played at The Park.
