CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia softball player Chrissy Quinn (Buckingham, Pa./Central Bucks East) was named the Pitcher of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference. She assisting Virginia in gathering its first conference victory in a 4-3 win against North Carolina in Chapel Hill on April 4th. Quinn faced 32 batter through seven innings of work. She scattered seven hits, allowed only one earned run and struckout nine batters en route to claiming her sixth victory of the ’99 season as a pitcher.

On the season, Quinn boasts a team-best 6-5 record. She has faced 337 batters in 75.2 innings of play, and has recorded a team-high 72 strikeouts. Quinn is holding opposing batters to a .236 batting average and has a current ERA of 2.31. She has thrown eight complete games and has posted one shutout.

Quinn is the second Cavaliers to be tabbed by the ACC for a weekly honor this season. Teammate Kristen Dennis (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa) gathered Player of the Week honors on February 23 after she paced the Cavaliers to a 4-2 record in the UNC Triangular Classic Tournament. In her first weekend of collegiate play, Dennis started all six games for UVa and batted .556 en route to a 10-18 performance at the plate. Four of her ten hits went for extra bases as she recorded three doubles and blasted Virginia’s first home run of the season in her first collegiate game. Dennis also scored seven runs, collected five RBI and stole one base.

The first-year sensation has kept her playing level at the top all season long. Dennis is batting .336 after recording a team-high 41 hits in 112 at bats. She leads the team in RBI’s (19), doubles (11) and homeruns (2). Dennis also leads the teams in putouts (171), and is second on the team with runs scored (17) and triples (1).
