Lancaster, Pa.-College Lacrosse USA, one of the premier lacrosse sites on the internet focusing on lacrosse, has announced its preseason All-American teams for the 1999 campaign. Three Cavaliers were honored with selection to these teams, including United States Developmental Team members Samm Taylor (Springfield, Va./Robinson) and Stephy Samaras (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), and former US Under-21 team member Mia Mooney (Wayne, Pa./Shipley).

Taylor, a 1998 second-team IWLCA All-American and a USWLA Honorable Mention All-American, led the Cavaliers in 1998 in caused turnovers with 56 (2.8 per game) and 39 draw controls (1.95 per game). Her 13 goals and 7 assists last season are both career highs. She was a member of the first team All-South squad.

Mooney, an IWLCA All-American in 1998, was the Cavaliers’ leading scorer in 1998 with 30 goals and 15 assists. She doubled her career totals with her scoring last season. Mooney led the Cavaliers in goals twice in 1998 and ledthe team with three game-winning goals. Mooney also had a game-winning assist. Last season marked her first selection to the All-Conference team as well. She tied a school record with 17 consecutive games played with a goal scored which was stopped when she went down with an injury in the game against Loyola in the first minute. She was named to the South Regional All-American team in 1998. Samaras is a member of the US Developmental team. The coverpoint on the nation’s stingiest defense in 1998, Samaras recorded 41 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers. Her lone goal in 1998 came in the NCAA semifinals against Dartmouth.

The Cavaliers open up their 1999 campaign with a game against Richmond on Wednesday, Mar. 3 in Charlottesville. Game time against the Spiders is 6:00 pm on the University Hall Turf Field.
