Charlottesville…UVa’s fall sports are getting ready to open up. No site changes for home events are anticipated yet because of University Hall maintenance. The year to date record is 0-0.

CROSS COUNTRY:
Coach: Randy Bungard, second season at Virginia, record: 0-0. 1997-98 record: 0-0. The season opens September 12th at home(Lou Onesty Invitational).

WOMEN’S SOCCER:
Coach: April Heinrichs, third season at Virginia, record: 26-12-4. 1997-98 record: 14-5-2. The season opens with George Washington(Tue., Sept. 1, 4:00 PM, away). Next on the schedule come James Madison(Sat., Sept. 5, 7:00 PM, Klckner Stadium) and Penn St.(Tue., Sept. 8, 4:00 PM, Klckner Stadium).

FIELD HOCKEY:
Coach: Melissa Sanders, sixth season at Virginia, record: 70-36. 1997-98 record: 19-3. The season opens Sept. 5 at St. Louis against Ohio St.(Sat., Sept. 5, 5:00 PM, in St. Louis). Then UVa plays Northwestern( Mon., Sept. 7, Noon, in St. Louis) and also Northeastern(Thur., Sept. 10, 7:00 PM, U-Hall Field).

VOLLEYBALL:
Coach: Melissa Aldrich Shelton, fourth season at Virginia, record: 51-49. 1997-98 record: 18-16. The season opens tonight against William & Mary(Tue., Sept. 1, 7:00 PM, Memorial Gym). Following that is the Navy Tournament(Fri.-Sat., Sept. 4-5, away). Next up is VPI( Tue., Sept. 8, 7:00 PM , away).

FOOTBALL:
Coach: George Welsh, 17th season at Virginia, record: 112-72-3. 1997-98 record: 7-4. The season opens Sept. 3 at Auburn(Thur., Sept. 3, 8:00 PM, away, ESPN TV). The next game is Sept. 12.

MEN’S SOCCER:
Coach: George Gelnovatch, third season at Virginia, record: 35-7-6. 1997-98 record: 19-4-3. The season opens Sept. 4-6 at the FILA Classic in Fullerton, CA.(Fri.–Mon., Sept. 4-6, 8:30-11:00 PM, each day, away). The next game is against Lehigh(Wed., Sept. 9, 7:00 PM, Klckner Stadium).

MEN’S TENNIS:
Coach: Dick Stockton, first season at Virginia: record: 0-0. 1997-98 record: 18-8. The season opens Sept. 19 at the National Clay Court Tournament in Baltimore.

WOMEN’S TENNIS:
Coach Phil Rogers, 17th season at Virginia, record: 176-154. 1997-98 record: 2-1(Fall) and 11-9 (Spring). The season opens Sept. 18 at the Wolfpack Invitational.

MEN’S GOLF:
Coach: Mike Moraghan, tenth season at Virginia, record: no dual matches. 1997-98 record: no dual matches. The season opens Sept. 12 at the Ridges Intercollegiate Tournament in Johnson City, TN.

WOMEN’S ROWING:
Coach: Kevin Sauer, fourth season at Virginia, record: 15-5. 1997-98 record: 6-5. The season opens Oct. 3 at Pitt.
