CLEMSON, S.C.--The University of Virginia track and field team began the outdoor portion of its schedule by competing in the first day of the Clemson Relays and finished with impressive results.

The women’s team was led by Dana Thul, who won the javelin throw with a distance of (40.14m), while teammate Rayna Chase finished the event in fifth place with a distance of (36.08m). In the 10,000 meter run, Lindsay Larsen finished third with a time of (41:56.17).

The men’s team was highlighted by Craig Vanderoef, who won the 10,000 meter run with a time of (32:41.45) and Ben Apfelbaum who placed fifth with a time of (34:09.24). Marion Mason finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of (6.87m) to round out UVa’s top performers.

The track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, (Mar. 21) when the Cavaliers compete in the second day of the Clemson Relays. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
