CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Sports Radio Network received a three-year commitment from WZXI-FM (SKY 95.5) last week to broadcast University of Virginia football, mens basketball and womens basketball. The Staunton based station will also air Cavalier Call-In, the coaches weekly talk show Sunday nights at 7:06. p.m.

According to Mac McDonald, Director of Broadcasting for Cavalier Sports Marketing and Voice of the Cavaliers, the WZXI snignals gives the network a much needed boost.

There were several areas in the valley that could not hear our games at night. We will now blanket Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, and Staunton as well as the surrounding area with a terrific day and night-time signal, McDonald said. Our contract with WZXI is through the 2001.

WZXI General Manager Bob Ridle is also very pleased with the relationship.

We couldnt be happier. We think Virginia has a terrific athletic program and we are delighted to be a part of telling the Cavaliers story.

UVa opens the 1998 football season Thursday night Sept. 3 at Auburn.
