Women's Basketball Falls to Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) – Julie Haygood scored 22 of her career-high 28 points in the second half as Arkansas State University defeated No. 8 Virginia 86-77 Sunday.
Haygood’s made 10 of 11 free throws as the Lady Indians were 27-of-33 from the line.
ASU (1-1) led by seven in the early going and was up 40-38 at the half. Virginia (1-1) closed to 64-63 on a 17-footer by Monick Foote, but Kesshia Evans hit a 3-pointer to make it 67-63 with less than five minutes to play.
Evans finished with 14 points. Christina Barry and Mozell Cottrell scored 11 each for ASU.
Erin Stoval led Virginia with 22 points. Lesley Brown scored 18 and DeMya Walker added 17.
ASU outrebounded Virginia 45-37.
