CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman Lori Lindsey (Indianapolis, Ind/Pike) headed the ball into the lower left corner of the goal off of a Angela Hucles’ (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) cross in the 87th minute to give the Virginia Cavaliers a 3-2 victory over the George Mason Patriots today at Klockner Stadium. The Cavaliers improve to 12-5-2 while the Patriots drop to 11-6-1. George Mason struck first in the 13th minute when junior Jaime Ricker crossed the ball from the right side of the field to freshman Katy Robertson. Robertson flicked the ball backwards with her head over Virginia goalkeeper Megan Boehm.

The Cavaliers retaliated three minutes later when senior defender Liz Botta dribbled through the Patriots’ defense and shot the ball past George Mason goalkeeper Jaime Pagliarulo. The goal tied the game at 1-1. Virginia took the lead at the 21st minute mark when forward Angela Hucles volleyed the ball over Pagliarulo’s head off of a cross from Laura Gaworecki (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek). The game remained 2-1 at the half.

George Mason tied the score after the Cavalier defense failed to clear the ball. Ricker picked up the loose ball just inside the penalty box and hit the ball past Boehm who had come out of goal. The ball slowly rolled into the goal to tie the game at 2-2.

With three minutes remaining, Hucles crossed the ball from the right side of the field to Lindsey who was standing by the left goal post. Lindsey then headed the ball into the lower corner of the goal to put the Cavaliers up 3-2 where it remained for the duration of the game.

Virginia had 14 shots and five corner kicks while George Mason had 7 shots and four corner kicks. Boehm made two saves while Pagliarulo made four.
