CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Two second half goals and a defense that held the Wolfpack to only three shots throughout the game gave the University of Virginia women’s soccer team a 2-0 victory over N.C. State today at Klockner Stadium.

Senior forward Jill Maxwell (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) broke the scoreless 0-0 tie five minutes into the second half on volley off a cross from freshman Ashley Meeker (Zanoni, Va./Hampton Roads Academy). Meeker sent a beautiful ball from the right side of the penalty box to Maxwell who allowed the ball to drop once, and then blasted it into the upper righthand corner of the goal. The score put the Cavaliers up 1-0.

The scoring continued for Virginia at the 61st minute mark when junior Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) crossed the ball from the left touchline to the feet of freshman Laura Gaworecki (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) who shot the ball past N.C. State goalkeeper Sara Marino. The goal held for the final score, 2-0.

The Cavalier defense allowed the Wolfpack only three shots during the game with all of them taken in the first half. Virginia dominated the game offensively with 14 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks. The Wolfpack was held to only two corner kicks.

Virginia will play the #11 Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, September 20. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville.
