NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 17th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores scored twice in each half to life them to the 4-0 shutout of the Cavaliers today in the second day of the Lady Vol Soccer Classic. The loss breaks a six-game unbeaten streak for the Cavaliers and it is the first time this season that the Cavaliers have been shutout.

Vanderbilt’s Kim Szurovy scored twice and assisted on the other two goals to pace the Commodore attack. She scored in the 14th minute on what would prove to be the game-winner. She assisted Laura Koerner in the 37th minute to send the Commodores to the 2-0 halftime lead.

In the 57th minute of play, Cavalier keeper Julie Harris (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was issued a red card for illegal usage of her hands. Frosh Ashley Mowrey (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) came in for Harris . But Szurovy scored again in the 67th minute, with an assist again coming from Austa Helgadottir to put Vanderbilt up 3-0. Szurovy fed Jessie Wolfe with 30 seconds to go in the game for the final score of 4-0.

Virginia’s Angela Hucles (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Cavaliers return to action this Friday, October 9 as Virginia travels to #20 Maryland. Game time against the Terrapins is 7:00 pm. The Cavaliers will return home on Monday, October 12 as they take on the Tulane Green Wave at 4:00 pm.
