Chapel Hill, N.C. – Virginia senior forward Jill Maxwell (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) buried a rebound of a Kyla Robinson (Arlington, Va./H. B. Woodlawn) shot to bring the Cavaliers to a 2-1 score at halftime against the top-ranked Tar Heels, but the defending National Champions scored three in the second half to improve to 17-0 on the season and clinch the ACC regular season championship.

North Carolina jumped out on top early as Cindy Parlow headed in a goal in the sixth minute. The Cavalier defense stiffened and did not allow a goal for the next 37 minutes until the Heels scored on another header, this time off a corner kick with just over two minutes remaining. But in the next minute, Robinson dribbled up the right flank and sent a hard shot into the cage which was saved by UNC goalie Siri Mullinix. The rebound popped out to Maxwell, who put the ball in the net for the score.

In the second half, the Tar Heels scored three goals to seal the victory. With the loss, the Cavaliers drop to 11-5-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Virginia will play its final regular season game this Saturday, October 31 as the Cavaliers host in-state rival George Mason at 7:30 pm at Klockner Stadium.
