Women's Soccer Falls to Penn State

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Penn State junior Kelly Convey crossed the ball past the outstretched hands of Virginia goalkeeper Megan Boehm (Columbia/Howard) to the feet of midfielder Shari Pickett who then scored the game winning goal in overtime to give the Nittany Lions a 2-1 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers today at Klockner Stadium.
The Nittany Lions, who defeated Maryland 3-0 on September 4, scored first at the 42 minute mark. On a Jeannine Verdrager corner kick, Conway headed the ball to Carole Dutchka who headed it into the goal to put Penn State up 1-0 at the end of the half.
he Cavaliers stormed back, scoring five minutes into the second half. Forward Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) started the play, passing to freshman Darci Borski (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) who crossed the ball to sophomore Tracy Lache (Littleton, CO/Heritage). Lache then drove the ball into the net to tie the score, 1-1.
Virginia drops to 2-1 and will play Florida State on Sept. 11. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm
