ONEONTA, N.Y. – Virginias Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) was named to Soccer Americas 1998 Pre-Season All-America Second team by that publication today. She was a member of the Soccer America All-Freshmen team in 1996.
Hucles led the Cavaliers in scoring last year with 18 goals and 5 assists. A second-team All-American (NSCAA) in 1997, Hucles ranks second all-time at Virginia with 35 goals and needs just two goals to take sole possession of first place in that category. She has scored at least 17 goals in each of her first two seasons, while no other Cavalier has ever scored more than 13 in a season. Hucles needs 28 points to become Virginias all-time leading scorer. A first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in both 1996 and 1997, Hucles had four game-winning goals in 1997, which led the team. She added a pair of game-winning assists, including against then third-ranked Portland on the road.
The Cavaliers, ranked sixth in both the NSCAA and the Soccer America polls, open the 1998 season at George Washington on September 1 at 4:00. Virginia returns home to take on the James Madison Dukes at 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 5.
