BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s tennis team continued its winning ways with a 7-2 upset of #28 Virginia Tech today in Blacksburg, Va. The win enabled the Cavaliers to avenge a fall loss to the Hokies in the ITA team regional tournament.

The win is the Cavaliers’ third in a row to start the spring season, as they improve to 6-1 overall this season. The 6-1 start is Virginia’s best since the 1992-93 team also started 6-1.

Virginia won five of the six singles matches, including three three-set decisions from Paige Boiko at #1, Amy O’Donnell at #3 and Christie Schweer at #5. Sophomores Leslie Cook and Kelly Weaver also won for the Cavaliers at #4 and #6, respectively.

The Cavaliers won two of three doubles matches, including an 8-2 win at #1 by Boiko and Stacy Gingold. Cook and Schweer gained an 8-4 win over Vanessa Pardo and Ines Khelifi at #2 doubles for their second win in a row.
