Women's Volleyball Defeats Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Virginia volleyball rebounded from its 3-0 loss to Florida State on Friday by taking a 3-0 decision over Jacksonville at Swisher Gym. The Cavaliers won the match 15-11, 15-4 and 16-14.
Virginia was led by setter Mary Frances Scott who recorded team-highs with 36 assists and 13 digs to go along with four kills and three blocks. Deanna Zwarich recorded a team-high 12 kills to add with three blocks and a dig. The duo of Jessica Parsons (11 kills, 6 digs, 4 blocks) and Katie Jones (10 kills, 3 digs) also gathered double figures in kills, while Amanda Wells and Blair Miller finished with nine and eight digs respectively. Tamara Shulman (7 assists, 5 kills, 3 digs) and Whitney Bilger (7 digs, 4 kills) contributed for UVa in the 3-0 victory.
Jacksonville was led by setter Aiko Beltran (46 assists, 13 digs) and outside hitter Tara Burton (19 kills) in the 3-0 loss.
With the win, Virginia improves to 17-4 overall, while the loss drops Jacksonville to 6-11. The Cavaliers (5-3 in the ACC) will return to action on Friday, (Oct. 23) when Virginia hosts the North Carolina State Wolfpack. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be played at Memorial Gym.
