Michelle Vizzuso, United States Field Hockey Team Win Pan Am Opener

WINNIPEG, Canada — Former Cavalier great Michelle Vizzuso(Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) started in today’s field hockey match in theopener at the Pan American Games for the United States team. The UnitedStates, one of the favorites in the competition, defeated Trinidad andTobago 2-0 to open at the top of the pool for the week.

The USA’s Kelli James and Kate Barber scored five minutes apart inthe first half to take the 2-0 lead it would not relinquish. Co-favoritesArgentina and Canada also battled, with the Argentines taking a 3-1 victoryto tie them with the USA at 1-0.

The Stars and Stripes will face Canada on Tuesday, July 27 beforefacing the Argentine team on Thursday, July 29.
