Charlottesville, Va. – The 1999 Cavaliers are ranked 18th in theNational Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA) preseason polls, asreleased today. Virginia, which finished 13-6-3 in 1998 and advanced to thesecond round of the NCAA Tournament, is looking to improve on itssecond-place finish in the ACC regular season from 1998. The Cavaliers areranked behind #1 UNC and #12 Clemson in the ACC.

Angela Hucles (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) is already theCavaliers’ career leader in points and goals and she returns for her finalseason in the orange and blue. Lori Lindsey (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) won agold medal at the 1999 Pan Am Games earlier this month, and Katie Tracy(Richmond, Va./James River), the team’s unsung hero in 1998, also comesback to the pitch for April Heinrichs’ Cavaliers.

Virginia opens the 1999 season on the road against Oregon State onSeptember 3 before facing 1998 NCAA semifinalist Portland, ranked #3, inPortland on September 5. Virginia opens at home on September 12 againstFresno State. Virginia will face eight teams ranked in the top-20 in thepreseason poll.
