CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team’s intrasquad scrimmagescheduled for Monday, August 30, has been moved to Tuesday, August 31, at3:30 p.m. in University Hall.

The ‘Hoos regular season gets under way on Wednesday, September 1, whenthey host Virginia Tech at 7:00 p.m. in University Hall, the new home ofCavalier volleyball. Virginia had played its home contests at Memorial Gymsince the inception of the program in 1979.

Virginia, under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach Melissa AldrichShelton, made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1998 and finished theseason with an impressive 26-8 overall record. The Wahoos were also 12-4and finished second in the extremely competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.The 12 ACC wins are a school record, while the 26 overall triumphs are thesecond highest single season win total in school history. The 1989 squadwon 29 matches.

In the 1999 Preseason ACC Coaches Poll, the Cavaliers have beenpicked to finish second. Clemson has been selected by the coaches to winthe ACC title. The 1999 season will also mark the first year that Virginiawill play its home matches at University Hall. Memorial Gym had served asthe Cavaliers’ home court since the inception of the program in 1979.
