Welsh Names Braverman Starting Place-Kicker

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia head coach George Welsh todaynamed Todd Braverman as the Cavaliers’ place-kicker for field goals andextra points.
Braverman, a junior from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was engaged in a battle inpreseason camp with sophomore David Greene for the nod. Greene, who handledthe kick-off duties for Virginia last season, will remain as Virginia’skick-off man this season.
Braverman was UVa’s field goal and extra point kicker last season. He made12 of 19 field goal attempts, 38 of 39 extra point tries and scored 74points last season. His longest field goal was a 47-yarder against NorthCarolina.
Greene started slowly last season, but got stronger as the season wore on.In the last four regular season games, he kicked off 22 times and had ninetouchbacks. In the first seven games when he kicked off 37 times and hadjust five touchbacks. All told he recorded 14 touchbacks in 59 kickoffs.
