Women's Soccer Closes Regular Season With Shutout Win

Charlottesville, Va.– The #12 Cavaliers finished their regularseason today with a 4-0 win over the Tennessee Volunteers. Jill Maxwell(Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) first put the Cavaliers on the board with the help ofa pass from Lori Lindsey (Indianapolis, IN/ Pike), who chipped the ballaround a defender to break free and get the ball to Maxwell. Jill Maxwell’sgoal in the 16th minute past Volunteer Keeper Ellen Dean (Memphis, TN/ St.Mary’s) gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, Lindsay capitalized on a Penalty Kick afterAngela Hucles (Virginia Beach, VA/ Norfolk Academy) was tackled in thepenalty box in the 26th minute. Lindsay’s goal put Virginia ahead 2-0 atthe half.
Third-year Katie Tracy (Richmond, VA/ James River) came out strongafter the half-time break and put a ball in the back of the net after onlytwo minutes of second-half play. Tracy was able to drill the ball pastVolunteer keeper, Ellen Dean, after the ball was bounced around in the box.
Kelly Worden (Spring, TX/ Klein) kept the pace with a goal twominutes after Tracy’s goal. Hucles passed the ball to Worden, giving her anopen shot, which she fired over Dean’s head in the 49th minute of play. Thegoal marked Worden’s second goal of the season.
The Cavaliers end their regular season with a 12-7 record. The ACCTournament begins on Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
