Cook Advances To Second Round Of Women's ITA Tennis Championships

BOSTON — University of Virginia third year Leslie Cook (Boynton Beach,Fla./Lake Worth Christian) advanced to the second round of the 1999 ITAEast Region Tennis Championships with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sheri Puppo ofJames Madison on Saturday at Harvard. Third year Christie Schweer(Houston, Texas/Memorial) and first year Jennifer Tuchband (Raleigh,N.C./Broughton) both lost their opening round matches, while second yearAmy O’Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) and first year Henriette Williams(Millburn, N.J./Millburn) earned first round byes.

Schweer lost her match to Hampton’s Katerina Stecova 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-4.Tuchband fell in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-4 to Barbara Privrel of BostonCollege.

The 1999 ITA East Region Tennis Championships are being held at HarvardUniversity and will run through Tuesday, November 9.
