CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia’s second matchup against JamesMadison this season resulted in a 3-1 victory for the Cavaliers, advancingthem to the 3rd round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. Jill Maxwell(Duxbury, MA/ Duxbury) found the back of the net in the 8th minute of playto give the Cavaliers an early lead over the Dukes. Katie Tracy (Richmond,VA/ James River) passed the ball off to Maxwell, who was able to beat JMUkeeper Suzanne Wilson (Burke, VA/ Robinson) and have an open shot on goal.

Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, VA/ Norfolk Academy) was next toscore for the Cavaliers, after a pass from Darci Borski (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) in the upper left corner of the penalty box. Huclesdrilled the shot from the left edge of the 18-yard line in the 24th minute,giving Virginia a 2-0 lead at the half.

James Madison came out strong in the second half and answeredVirginia’s goals 34 minutes into the second half. JMU Freshman Teri Joyce(Fairfax, VA/ W.T.Woodson) drilled the ball past Cavalier keeper JulieHarris (Ridgefield, CT/ Ridgefield) during the 79th minute of play. TheDukes maneuvered around the Cavalier defense starting with a pass fromAimee Grahe (Hagerstown, MD/ Williamsport) to Beth Burgess (Richmond, VA/James River) who then passed the ball along to Joyce, resulting in theDukes’ only goal for the match.

Four minutes after JMU’s goal, Hucles found the back of the netagain. During the 83rd minute of play, Maxwell passed the ball off toHucles, who had a wide open goal in front of her. She fired the ball intothe back of the net, ending the scoring for the match and confirmingVirginia’s 3-1 victory.

The Cavaliers will host the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament nextSaturday at 2:00 p.m. against Hartford.
