GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fourth-year setter Mary Frances Scott (Phoenix,Ariz./Xavier College Prep) has been selected as Co-Atlantic CoastConference (ACC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending November15. Scott, Virginia’s all-time assist leader, shares the award withClemson’s Cindy Stern.

Scott had an outstanding week as the Cavaliers posted a 2-1 record. In thethree road contests, she dished out 176 assists in 12 games for an averageof 14.67 per game. Scott also totaled 17 kills, 35 digs, 13 block assistsand four service aces.

With the 176 assists in the three matches, Scott moved into second place onthe all-time ACC assist list with 5,877 in her outstanding career. Shepassed North Carolina’s Erin Berg (1985-88), who totaled 5,751. GeorgiaTech graduate Andrea Nachtrieb (1993-96) holds the all-time ACC record with6,102. Scott is currently 16th on the all-time NCAA Division I assist listwith the 5,877 and needs 47 more assists to move up to 12th place.

Scott opened the week by registering her first career triple-double with 65assists, 14 digs and 10 kills in a 3-1 win over North Carolina State onTuesday, November 9. She hit .450 in the match and added five blockassists. In a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over James Madison on Friday,November 12, Scott posted 57 assists, 12 digs, six block assists, threekills and three service aces. In a 3-0 loss at 25th-ranked North Carolinaon Saturday, November 13, Scott handed out 54 assists (18 per game), andadded nine digs, four kills and two block assists.

On the year, Scott has amassed 1,315 set assists and is the firstVirginia player to accumulate 1,000 assists in four-consecutive seasons.With 288 digs and 32 service aces, Scott is second on the team in both ofthose categories in 1999. She is also third on the team with 80 totalblocks.

Virginia, the fourth seed, begins play in the 1999 ACC Tournament onThursday, November 18, when it plays fourth-seeded Duke at 2:00 p.m. atDisney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
