CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Cavaliers lost to the Hartford Hawks(18-4-2) 3-2 today in the third round of the NCAA Tournament after threeovertime periods. Hartford forward Danielle Korbmacher (Mijmegen,Netherlands/ Puck Derenter) started the scoring during the 16th minute ofplay. Sandra Doreleijers (Geldrop, Netherlands/ Puck Derenter) passed theball to Korbmacher, who turned on goal and fired the ball past Virginiakeeper Julie Harris (Ridgefield, CT/ Ridgefield).

Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, VA/ Norfolk Academy) stepped up andanswered Hartford’s goal at the 43 minute mark. Hucles drilled a shot 40yards away from the goal. The ball bounced off of Hartford keeper IngridSternhoff (Oslo, Norway/ Kolbotn), hit the crossbar, and found the back ofthe net. The score remained tied 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Virginia had the third goal of the game after Cavalier second-yearDarci Borski (Philadelphia, PA/ Nazareth Academy) found the net on abreak-away. Borski stripped the ball from a defender, maneuvered throughthe Hartford defense, and fired a shot past Sternhoff during the 70thminute of play.

Two minutes later, Hartford senior Victoria Munro (Seaford, NY/Seaford) tied the game to make the score 2-2. Signe Andersen (Vallensback,Denmark/ Hillerod) passed the ball to Tini Lyng (Kastrup, Denmark/ Kastrup)who fed the ball to Munro, giving her the scoring opportunity.

The game remained tied at 2-2 after regulation and the first twoovertime periods. It was not until the 133rd minute of play that the gamewas decided when Hartford freshman Katharina Lindner (Kleinostheim,Germany) received a ball from Korbmacher in the box, catching Harris offguard, and scored the game winning goal.

Hartford plays next weekend against the winner of the Penn Stateand Southern California game. The Cavaliers finish their season with a 13-9record.
