CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Donald Hand scored 15 of his 27 points in thesecond half, including nine during a 21-2 run in the first 6:09, as Virginiarallied from a 1-point deficit to beat Georgia Tech 83-65 on Saturday.

The Cavaliers (10-4, 1-1 ACC) trailed 37-36 at the break before scoring thefirst eight points of the second half. After Tony Akins’ 13-foot running jumperdrew the Yellow Jackets (7-6, 0-1) to within 44-39, Chris Williams’ 3-pointerstarted another 13-0 spurt that ended with 13:46 to play.

Virginia never led by less than 16 points the rest of the way.

Williams and Roger Mason added 14 points each for Virginia, with Williamsgetting 10 in the second half. Adam Hall added 11 points, nine after theintermission.

Georgia Tech got 21 points each from Jason Floyd and Jason Collier.

Virginia got scoring from 10 players in the opening half, but still trailedat the break as Floyd scored 14 points and Collier 11.

The Yellow Jackets also outscored Virginia 6-4 off turnovers in the firsthalf, but the Cavaliers began cashing in after the break, scoring 26 of their47 second-half points off miscues.
