RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Kenny Inge dunked and Archie Miller and MarshallWilliams each hit a free throw in the final 1:37 to give North Carolina State a65-62 win over Virginia on Wednesday.

Damien Wilkins scored 13 points for N.C. State (11-2, 2-1 Atlantic CoastConference), while Anthony Grundy and Inge each had 10.

The Cavaliers (10-5, 1-2) had won eight of the past 11 meetings between theteams but lost their first conference road game of the season and dropped theirthird straight on the Wolfpack’s homecourt.

Virginia was led by Donald Hand with 17 points, 13 of which came in thesecond half. Chris Williams added 13 points, and Travis Watson had 10 pointsand 15 rebounds.

Virginia tied the score 61-61 on Chris Williams’ 3-pointer with 2:27remaining, but Inge got an open lane and scored on a dunk to put N.C. Stateback up 63-61.

Miller was fouled by Williams driving under the basket and made the first ofa 1-and-1 to put the Wolfpack ahead 64-61.

Roger Mason missed a layup, and Watson was fouled going for the rebound with23.2 seconds left. Watson made one free throw to cut N.C. State’s lead to64-62. Virginia then fouled Marshall Williams immediately, but he sealed thewin with one free throw with 22.7 seconds remaining.

Adam Hall’s 3-point attempt for Virginia missed with 9.9 seconds to go, andN.C. State recovered the ball.

N.C. State led by nine points late in the game, but Hand went 6-for-6 fromthe foul line in a four-minute span to cut the Wolfpack lead to 60-58 with 3:21left. Hand’s aggressive drives to the basket eventually got the best of him,and he fouled out with 3:03 left.

Virginia, down 31-28 at halftime, kept it close in the opening minutes ofthe second half. But after Hand made one free throw to cut N.C. State’s lead to38-36, the Wolfpack went on a 14-7 run, during which Grundy converted afour-point play, then fouled out on the two ensuing possessions.

Grundy’s 3-pointer and one free throw made it 47-42 with 10:53, but he wascalled for fouling Hand twice in a row as Hand drove to the basket. Hand madeonly one free throw, then Wilkins hit two foul shots and Justin Gainey made adriving layup to close the run at 52-43 with 8:52 left.

In the first half, N.C. State scored 18 points in the paint and 10 pointsoff nine Virginia turnovers.

Damon Thornton’s basket with 7:44 left in the first half gave the Wolfpackits biggest lead of the half at 21-15. But the Cavaliers’ Keith Friel hit two3s and four three throws to put Virginia ahead 27-26 with 3:28 remaining beforehalftime.
