PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Virginia golf team received a bid to the NCAA Men’s Golf Tournament East Regional, to be hosted by Temple University at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa. May 18-20. Twenty of the nation’s current top 50 ranked collegiate golfers and 19 of the nation’s top 50 ranked teams will be among the East Regional field.

The largest of three regional qualifying tournaments to the NCAA Division I Championship Finals scheduled for Auburn Alabama May 31-June 3. The East Regional includes a field of 27 qualifying teams and six individuals for a total of 141 players. Included in that group is defending national team champion Georgia Tech, along with 1999 top-10 finishers Clemson (8th) and North Carolina (9th).

In the latest Golfstat collegiate rankings (released May 5), three of the nation’s top five ranked teams are from the East Region. Georgia Tech appears as the No. 1 team in the land, followed by Clemson (2) and Georgia (4). Additional east region teams among the current top 20 are Augusta State (12), Auburn (14), Florida (13), and N.C. State (18).Top 10 individual players from the east include Bryce Molder (2) and Matt Kuchar (3) of Georgia Tech, Alex Rocha (5) of Mississippi State, and Lucas Glover (10) of Clemson.

The East Regional Field (Designated by NCAA District qualification): District 1: Rhode Island, Yale, Dartmouth District 2: Penn State, James Madison, Richmond, Seton Hall District 3 North: Georgia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina State, Duke, Augusta State, Wake Forest, Virginia, North Carolina District 3 South: Georgia, Auburn, Florida, North Florida, South Carolina, Alabama-Birmingham, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State

At-Large Qualifiers: East Tennessee State, Tennessee, Virginia Commonwealth, Georgia State. Individual Qualifiers: Keith Unikel, Gary Mankulish (Maryland), Jedd McLuen (College of Charleston), Philip Worthington (Bethune-Cookman), Josh Broadaway (Troy State), Alan Morgan (Louisiana State).
