VIRGINIA HEAD COACH DENNIS WOMACK:

“UVa is just in the survival mode. After you lose in the first game you just try and survive for another day. What we have said to our players all along is you just have to keep fighting and play as hard as you can.”

“Congratulations to Wake Forest. They are not going to repeat as champions, but for the past threeo years they have been very, very good. They are going to be one of our representatives from the ACC in regional play. Congratulations to them on a fine season, and we will obviously be pulling for them in regional play.”

Dan Street has to be in the stories and it is an of interesting story. He is a young guy that really didn’t start pitching until the middle of the season. We had tryouts during the middle of the year because we were down pitching. I think Coach (Steve) Whitmyer was much more impressed than I was. I thought Dan looked pretty good, but I wasn’t so sure. Dan has two speeds – slow and slower. When he starts throwing too fast we get upset.”

WAKE FOREST HEAD COACH GEORGE GREER:

“(Dan) Street pitched a great game against us. He did exactly what he had to do to beat us, and that is not throwing a fastball over the plate. He kept us off balance and threw a lot of change-ups. We hit the ball hard at times, but they were right at people.”

“They played a good game and had a good plan of attack against Danny Borrell. Danny is a fastball pitcher and got the ball up a little bit. “
