ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Virginia men’s tennis team swept three doubles matches from Illinois State on Sunday (October 1) in the final day of competition at the Navy Invitational, but lost the match 6-4. The Cavaliers trailed 6-1 after the singles matches, which were contested on Saturday. UVa finishes play in the round-robin Navy Invitational with a 0-2-1 record.

In doubles play against Illinois State, fourth-year Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens) and first-year Preston Walters (Atherton, Calif./The Menlo School) earned an 8-3 win at #1 doubles over Ricky Heath and Yew Ming Si. At #2 doubles, third-year Jason Romesburg (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) and second-year Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) defeated Brent Steven and Albert Piasecki 9-8 (7). UVa third-year Jonathan Chou (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and first-year Gregory Alpert (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) defeated Jason Smit and Andrew Martin 8-5 at #3 doubles.

In the first day of the tournament on Friday, UVa tied Navy 6-6. The Cavaliers fell to Oklahoma 5-1 on Saturday, before concluding the tournament with doubles play against Illinois State today.
