CHARLOTTESVILLE– Ann Wheelwright has joined the staff of the University of Virginia Athletic Media Relations Office as an assistant athletic media relations director. Wheelwright, who has 13 years of experience in athletic media relations, will work with the women’s basketball, football and golf programs at Virginia. She replaces Cathy Ripley who resigned in August to accept a position with GE Fanuc in Charlottesville.

Wheelwright spent the last four years as an assistant athletic director/sports information at Boston College. Prior to joining the athletic department at Boston College, she was an assistant athletic director/media services at the University of North Texas for two years. She was also an assistant media relations director at the Southwest Conference for one year, an assistant sports information director at North Carolina State for three years, an assistant commissioner at the North Atlantic Conference for two years and an intern at the Eastern College Athletic Conference for one year.

Wheelwright is a 1987 graduate of Ithaca College with a bachelor’s degree in communications. She was a sports information assistant at Ithaca during her four years as an undergraduate student.

Trent Packer has also joined the Virginia athletic media relations staff. Packer, a recent graduate of the University of California-Berkeley, will work with the UVa women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s tennis programs. He will also assist in the area of publications.
