Chapel Hill, N. C. — The Cavaliers were the first team since September 19, 1997 to equal the number of shots taken by the North Carolina Tar Heels, but they were not able to equal the number of goals and fell to the top-ranked Tar Heels 6-1 tonight in Chapel Hill. Lori Lindsey (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) scored nine minutes into the second half of play to bring the #16 Cavaliers to within 2-1 of the top-ranked Tar Heels, but UNC scored four times in the final 30 minutes of play. With the loss, the Cavaliers drop to 1-1 overall (0-1 ACC).

Jodi Clugston (Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) started in the cage for Virginia and made one save in the first half of play and allowed only one goal in the first stanza. She ended the evening with four saves. Lindsey’s goal came off a direct kick in the 55th minute of play

The Cavaliers will open up at home on Monday, Sept. 4 against the UAB Blazers. Game time is 7:00 pm at Klockner Stadium.
