Hartford, CT — The Virginia women’s soccer team fell to #13 Hartford tonight by a score of 1-0 in a game played in West Hartford. The Hawks scored on a header in the 10th minute to record the only goal in the game.

Virginia outshot the Hawks 17-7, including 10-2 in the second half, but the Cavaliers were not able to solve the Hartford keeper, who finished with seven saves in the shutout. Jodi Clugston (Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had three saves for Virginia in the match, including a spectacular save in the 24th minute that kept the Cavaliers in striking distance when she batted a rocket to one of the posts and then covered it to complete the save.

The Cavaliers’ best chance came in the 41st minute as Katie Tracy (Richmond, Va./ James River) fired from 25 years out and hit the crossbar. The rebound was headed over the net by Lindsay Grubbs (Corona Del Mar, Calif./Corona Del Mar).

Virginia returns home to host ACC-rival N. C. State on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Game time against the Wolfpack is 7:00 pm.
