CHARLOTTESVILLE – The #15 Virginia women’s soccer team easily defeated George Washington tonight, 7-0. The Cavaliers had five separate goal scorers on the night, including fourth-year Sasha Wilson (Charlottesville, VA/ Albemarle), who knocked home a Lindsey Grubbs (Corona Del Mar, CA/ Corona Del Mar) cross late in the match for her first career goal.

It took the `Hoos 18 minutes to solve the Colonials defense, but once Sarah Lane (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton North) found the back of the net off a Erin Engelhardt (Hasbrouk Heights, NJ/ Immaculate Heart) pass, the goals kept coming. Lane, who made her first career start, added a second goal just two minutes later, again off a pass from Engelhardt.

Even defender Kelly Worden (Spring,Tex./ Klein) got into the act, scoring her first two goals of the season. Worden’s first goal came on a long-distance shot from more than 20 yards out which found its way to the left hand side of the goal. The second-year got her second goal courtesy of an Ashley Meeker (Zanoni, VA/ Hampton Roads Academy) corner kick.

Forward Alyssa Benitez (Lake Mary, Fla./ Lake Mary) tallied the Cavaliers’ other goal on an unassisted shot from the right-hand corner of the 18-yard box. The `Hoos out shot George Washington 29-0 en route to registering their fourth shutout of the year. Virginia renews ACC play Friday when it visits Maryland at 7:00 pm.
