Dalton, Ga. – The University of Virginia golf team finished the first day of competition at the 2000 Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, Ga., tied for eighth place. Senior Cameron Yancey is currently tied for fourth place with a three under par score of 69. The Cavaliers finished the first day of the 15-team tournament with a total of six over par 294.

The teams will play 18 holes on Saturday (October 7) and conclude with 18 holes on Sunday (October 8) at the par-72 Farm in Dalton. The University of Georgia leads the team competition with a 10 under par total of 278 and UCLA is second with a 281 total.

The tournament’s individual leaders are Nick Cassini and Ryan Hybl of Georgia. Cassini leads the competition with a seven under par 65 followed by Hybl’s five under par 67.

Other players competing in the tournament for Virginia include sophomore Justin Goodhue (74), freshman Rusty Kennedy (75), junior Steve Marino (76), and senior Mike Mitchell (79).
