COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The #15 Virginia Women’s soccer team appeared to be on the ropes against Maryland Friday night (October 6), until three goals in the last 22 minutes of play gave the Cavaliers a 3-2 come-from-behind victory.

The Terrapins took an early 2-0 lead when they scored twice in the span of five minutes during the first half. Maryland’s Coutney Beirne and Terri Greer each notched their first goal of the season, Beirne at 26:42 of the first half and Greer at 31:21, to give Maryland a commanding halftime lead.

The `Hoos responded at 68:01 of the second half, however, when third-year Lindsey Grubbs (Corona Del Mar, Calif./ Corona Del Mar) corralled an Ashley Meeker (Zanoni, Va./ Hampton Roads Academy) corner kick and passed the ball to Katie Tracy (Richmond, Va./ James River),who found the back of the net.

The Cavaliers added a second goal just 1:43 later. Lori Lindsey (Indianapolis, Ind./ Pike) fired a free kick from the top of the box that beat Terrapins goalkeeper Riki Ann Serrins. It was Lindsey’s team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Lindsey, a candidate for the MAC Player of the Year Award, added a game-winning assist 13 minutes later. The third-year midfielder found Darci Borski (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who sent a lob in from the top of the box that deflected off Serrins’ hand and into the goal.

With the win, Virginia moves to 7-5 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC. The Cavaliers have another ACC road game at Wake Forest Oct. 12, before returning home to play James Madison on Saturday, October 14. Both games will start at 7:00 pm.
