WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The #14 Virginia Women’s soccer team dropped a tough conference game to Wake Forest Thursday night (October 12), 2-1. The Demon Deacons scored the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining in the contest to give the Cavaliers their sixth loss of the season and third loss in ACC play.

The `Hoos took an early lead on Katie Tracy `s (Richmond, Va./ James River) unassisted goal 29:00 minutes into the match. The goal gave Virginia a 1-0 lead, which the Cavaliers did not relinquish until 63:18 of the second half, when Wake Forest’s Emily Taggart found the back of the net. The Demon Deacons struck again at 86:12 with a goal by Gabi Lieb that clinched the victory.

Virginia held the Demon Deacons to just 11 shots on the night. TheCavaliers only managed 10 shots themselves, however, only three of which came in the second half.

The `Hoos return to action Saturday night (October 14) when they take on non conference rival James Madison. The game marks the beginning of a three-game home stand for the Cavaliers, which includes games against No. 22 Richmond and No. 9 Duke.
