Virginia Men 11th, Women 12th In Preseason Swimming Poll

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s swimming and diving team is ranked 11th in the Preseason College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Poll, while the women’s team is ranked 12th in the nation. The Cavaliers commence Atlantic Coast Conference competition on Saturday, October 28 when both squads host Clemson at 4:00 p.m. at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center. The one-meter diving competition will begin at 2:30 p.m.
In the men’s CSCAA poll, UVa is ranked 11th with 111 points. Texas is the top-ranked team in the preseason poll with 180 points. The Virginia women are rated as the 12th best team in the country and they garnered 100 points in women’s poll. Arizona heads the women’s poll with 180 points.
Both Virginia swimming teams stand at 2-0 on the season, having defeated West Virginia (Oct. 14) and James Madison (Oct. 20) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Clemson opens its season at Virginia Tech on Friday, October 27. The Cavalier women are looking for their 23rd-consecutive dual meet win. The streak spans four seasons, dating back to the end of the 1997-98 season.
The Virginia men are looking to avenge a 136-107 loss to the Tigers last season. It was the Cavaliers’ only dual meet loss of the 1999-2000 season. The UVa women defeated Clemson 145.5-97.5 last season.
