TALLAHASSEE, Fl. – Virginia women’s soccer second-year forward Alyssa Benitez (Lake Mary, Fl./ Lake Mary) scored an unassisted goal at 88:37 to propel the Cavaliers to a 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference win over Florida State Saturday night (October 28).

After outshooting Florida State and producing twice as many shots on goals, the Cavaliers finally broke through with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Benitez’ goal marks the second time in two games that she has scored the game winner. She also scored the match-clinching goal in last Saturday’s (October 21) 4-3 upset of Duke. Benitez has now scored three goals in her last two games. She has five goals on the season, three of which were game winners.

With the win, Virginia improves to 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the ACC heading in to the ACC Tournament, which runs from Nov. 2-3 and Nov. 5 at Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University in Durham, N.C.
