CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia second-year women’s soccer player Alyssa Benitez (Lake Mary, Fl./ Lake Mary) was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for the week of October 23-39. It is her second consecutive selection to the team of the week, and the second time she has made the team in her career.
Benitez scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute of #14 Virginia’s 1-0 victory over #16 Florida State last Saturday night (October 28). The goal was her fifth this year and the sixth of her career.
Benitez made the team last week (October 16-22) after she scored two goals, including the game winner, in the then-#16 Cavaliers’ 4-3 victory over Duke, which was the 11th-ranked team in the nation at the time. Benitez and the rest of the Cavaliers are in action tonight (November 2) in a first round ACC Tournament game against Duke. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University in Durham, N.C.
