CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Women’s soccer team received a first round bye in the NCAA Division I Women’s College Cup. The selection committee announced Sunday night (Nov. 5) that the Cavaliers will host the winner of a first round match between William & Mary and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in a second round game.
Virginia, which finished its season 10-7-1 and 4-3 in the ACC after tying Duke in the ACC Tournament and being eliminated in penalty kicks, will likely host its second round game on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m., although the time and date are not definite at this point.
The Cavaliers are in the same bracket as ACC foe North Carolina, which garnered the tournament’s 5th seed after winning the ACC Tournament. If both teams win their second round matches, they could meet in the third round.
Virginia and North Carolina are joined by four other ACC teams, Wake Forest, Florida State, Duke and Clemson, which is the No. 3 seed. Notre Dame captured the tournament’s top seed.
