HARRISONBURG, Va. (11/11/00) — Virginia won the final seven boutsand defeated James Madison 26-10 in college wrestling Saturday night atJMU’s Godwin Hall. The match was the season opener for both schools.

Senior P.J. Bory’s (Suffren, N.Y./Suffren) 1-0 decision againstsophomore Brian Consolvo (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) in the149-pound bout started the Cavaliers’ streak of victories. Boryselected to be down to start the second period and escaped for the onlypoint of the bout. The only bonus points scored by the Cavaliers cameat 174 where freshman Kevin Collier (Stafford, Va./North Stafford)registered a technical fall at 5:29 over JMU’s red-shirt freshmanJeremy Rankin (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson).

The Dukes took a 10-3 lead after the first three bouts. SophomoreDave Colabella (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) posted an 11-2 majordecision against freshman Zach Freday (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) at197 pounds to begin the match. Freshman Geoff Head (Virginia Beach,Va./Ocean Lakes) pinned freshman Ryan Stewart (Dumfries, Va./Potomac)at 4:47 of the 125-pound division.
