NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Virginia wrestling team defeated the Old Dominion Monarchs in a dual match competition by the score of 24-12. After winning two of the first five matches of the dual, UVa went on to claim four of the last five bouts to come away with their fifth dual match victory of the season.

However, the Cavaliers would go on to win four of the remaining five matches (including three consecutive bouts) to come away with the victory. Alexander gave Virginia the lead again for good when he pinned Old Dominion’s Payton Lamb at 1:36 into the 133 lbs. match, giving UVa a 12-9 advantage. The Cavaliers’ Bernd followed Alexander’s win with a 9-6 decision over Blake Romano in the 141 lbs. class before Virginia’s Seidel topped Old Dominion’s Will Carroll by the score of 6-2 in the 149 lbs. match to give UVa a 18-9 lead.

The Monarchs pulled within six points of UVa at 18-12 when Jesse Pearce defeated the Cavaliers’ Don Carlo-Clauss (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) by the score of 7-6 in the 157 lbs. match. But Virginia’s Francesca ended Old Dominion’s chance at a tie by pinning Dan Martin at 4:32 in the 165 lbs. match to give UVa a 24-12 victory.

With the win, Virginia’s record improves to 5-6 overall. The Cavaliers improve to 17-11 all-time against Old Dominion.
