CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s tennis team begins its 2001 Spring season Wednesday (Feb. 7) with a non-conference road match at Old Dominion. The Cavaliers will take their seven-man roster to Virginia Beach, Va. for a 2:00 p.m. match with ODU. Virginia owns a 16-3 (.842) all-time record against Old Dominion, including an 8-1 victory on Feb. 5, 2000.

Virginia will be led by No. 1 singles player Amy O’Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), who sat out the fall season while recovering form shoulder surgery. Second-year year Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C. / Broughton) will play at No. 2 singles, while fourth-year Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas / Memorial) will play at No. 3. Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C. / Broughton). Second-year Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J. / Millburn), first-year Laura James (Fairfax, Va. / Centerville) and fourth-year Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) round out the singles lineup.

In doubles, Williams and Schweer will team up at No. 1 and O’Donnell will team with Christine Kim (McLean, Va./Bishop Ireton) at No. 2. Tuchband and Weaver make up the third doubles team.

The Cavaliers are on the road for two more matches Saturday (Feb. 10) at Princeton and Sunday (Feb. 11) at Pennsylvania.
