Philadelphia, Pa. – The No. 52 University of Virginia women’s tennis team came from behind to defeat the University of Pennsylvania, 4-3, in Philadelphia Sunday (Feb. 11). The win moved the Cavaliers to 2-1 overall on the season heading in to their first home match of the season next Saturday (Feb. 17) against Dartmouth.

After losing the doubles point by dropping two-of-three doubles matches, Virginia trailed 1-0 heading into singles play. Then, with only two matches to go, the Cavaliers trailed UPenn, 3-2. Virginia’s top two players, Amy O’Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) and Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C. / Broughton), both won in three sets, however, to give the `Hoos the 4-3 victory.

O’Donnell defeated Sanela Kunovac, the East Region’s No. 4 player, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. It was a remarkable result for O’Donnell who was playing in just her third singles match after undergoing shoulder surgery in August. Williams defeated Nicole Ptak, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
